Update on work and life
Dec. 8th, 2020 06:13 pmHey I think I got all my rage out for a bit on here.
Back to the thing this blog is for mainly.
So I picked up more hours at work recently (I am a cleaner at my old university while the pandemic rages on and I try to find a job here in the UK.) My schedule is now 5-9 M-F and 13-17 S-SU and it's not too bad so far, I am still finding time to make art but animation seems to be too complicated lately to get anything done.
I think I am so used to digital illustration only taking at most 3 days now, I am so impatient with Animation. I know that digital art used to be just as much of a time sink but it's been a long time building the skill. Animation is still not a regular practice for me yet but I will keep trying to stick with it. I want to get expert level at rigging 2D so that even learning my arch nemesis Toon Boom is easy.
I have a few art updates but I've not done as much art in the past two weeks because of a combination of my low serotonin and taking on a 7 day work week. But I'm slowly getting my courage back. I've also just acquired a herd of Guinea Pigs as well and I love them. They have really helped my mood tbh.
So on to the completed art:
I'll talk about some finished pieces first from October (the last time I had any energy haha)
First I tried my hand at some looping animation for Halloween:
Then I decided to make some Halloween themed fan art of one of my favourite Disney characters Gadget:
This was really fun and probably my best work this year.
Then most recently, I did a quick illustration from a few references on Pinterest of a sort of dystopian future character:
I have been much slower with my plans for animated clips. But I want this blog to hold myself accountable to progress more. I think twitter and Instagram have caused some bad habits and I focus much more on getting something finished quickly rather than learning from a new experience.
So here are my current works in progress:
I finished this illustration of Janelle Monáe during the summer and started the rigging process in After Effects with Duik. Somewhere along the line I just stopped and have had trouble picking it up ever since. I have found that the slow nature of my current desktop computer can make me frustrated.

I usually open it for a few hours, go put on a YouTube video, and pretend I'll get it done and it just doesn't. But I should be getting a major upgrade to my current desktop pc soon and I hope it will force me to stop wasting time.

Another wip which I have actually been actively working on is some character sheets for my OCs where I am looking to simplify their designs for better use in Animation.
I really like the look of Kate so far so I'll see how I want her to match with Jerry the frog soon after. (I'll also make a sketch dump after this for misc. art I've done the past three months as well.)
That's about it for things I've actually started on. I am in the early phase of a fun side project with my older artist brother as well.
Other projects I'm thinking about too is maybe working in unity and trying my hand at UX/UI design. And I'd like to do some more fan art I recently read through the Nana manga series and would love to make some Nana & Nana illustrations.
Okay glad I finally got this out there, I'm trying to get a better hold of my problems related to my ADHD but it will take time. I know my graduate job hunt is also going to be a steep uphill battle considering the state of jobs in the UK atm.
But I'm gonna keep going and try to stay positive, I may look at freelance work more seriously once I have heard back about my tier 2 visa.
Stay safe and I'll post again soon!
